Free-draining driveways

SuDS-Compliant Driveway Installation

A driveway that handles its own rainwater. A SuDS-compliant resin driveway drains straight through into a permeable sub-base — no puddles, no run-off to the road, and usually no planning permission. Backed by a 10-year written guarantee.

What you get

A driveway that meets the drainage rules

Since 2008, paving over a front garden with an impermeable surface that drains to the road can need planning permission. A SuDS-compliant resin driveway sidesteps that by managing water on your own land.

Drains on your own land

Rainwater passes through the surface into a permeable sub-base instead of running to the public road — the core of SuDS compliance.

Usually no planning permission

Because it drains on site, a SuDS-compliant driveway generally falls under permitted development. We confirm this for your property.

No more puddles

Standing water clears through the surface, so the driveway stays usable and tidy after heavy rain.

Eases flooding and run-off

Absorbing rainfall at source reduces pressure on drains and the run-off that contributes to local flooding.

Smooth, seamless finish

You get the full bound look — no loose stones — with permeability built into the layers below.

Engineered sub-base

True compliance comes from the build beneath. We construct a free-draining sub-base, not just a porous top.

Why choose us

Compliance is built into the sub-base, not sprayed on the top

A driveway is only SuDS-compliant if the whole build drains. We’ve seen ‘permeable’ driveways fail because a porous surface was laid over solid concrete, trapping water and defeating the point. We assess your ground, design a free-draining sub-base and build the full system so it genuinely manages water — and keeps you within the rules.

Before we quote, we assess how your site drains and where water needs to go. That determines the sub-base depth and design — the part that does the real drainage work and the part that decides whether the driveway is truly compliant.

Getting this right is usually what keeps a new driveway within permitted development, avoiding the planning permission that impermeable front-garden surfaces can require. We confirm the position for your specific property during the survey.

You receive a fixed, itemised quote with the cost per m² shown, and the driveway is covered by our 10-year written guarantee on workmanship and materials.

Work process

How we install your SuDS-compliant driveway

A compliant driveway is an engineered drainage system. Every layer is built to let water through.

01

Survey and drainage assessment

We assess ground conditions, falls and where water should go, and confirm the planning position for your property.

02

Permeable sub-base construction

We build a free-draining sub-base to the correct depth — the layer that makes the driveway genuinely compliant.

03

Edging

We fit containment edging that holds the surface without blocking perimeter drainage.

04

Mix and trowel

Resin and aggregate are mixed at the correct ratio and trowelled to a smooth, porous finish.

05

Cure and drainage check

The surface cures in around 24 hours. We verify it drains through as designed before handover.

06

Tidy handover

We clear all waste, leave the property tidy and explain simple ongoing care.

Materials

Trusted, industry-recognised systems

We only specify UV-stable resin and graded aggregate from
established suppliers, because the quality of the materials decides how well the surface
drains, holds colour and lasts.

FAQs

SuDS-compliant driveway questions

Do I need planning permission for a resin driveway?

If the surface is impermeable and drains to the road, you can. A SuDS-compliant permeable driveway drains on your own land, so it usually falls under permitted development. We confirm the position for your property during the survey.

What actually makes it SuDS-compliant?

The complete build drains — a porous resin surface over a free-draining, permeable sub-base — so rainwater soaks into the ground rather than running off. A porous top over a solid base does not qualify.

Can my existing driveway be made compliant?

Only if the sub-base drains. Laying a porous surface over impermeable concrete won’t achieve compliance. We’ll assess what your site needs to drain properly.

Will it cope with heavy rain?

Yes — a correctly built permeable system is designed to take rainfall through the surface and into the ground, clearing water rather than pooling.

Does it look different from a normal resin driveway?

No — same smooth, seamless, no-loose-stone finish. The permeable sub-base and build beneath are what make it compliant.
